Operating MonkeyCard

MonkeyCard has several powerful Greeting management features. For ease of navigation, MonkeyCard is laid out on three separate screens. These screens are:

  • Main Menu- For managing Greeting libraries. This screen will contain a database of all the Greetings you have created or imported into your Palm.
  • Editor- For composition of new Greeting and alteration of existing ones.
  • MonkeyCard Message screen- Screen where you compose the message part of the Greeting. To get to this screen select the Text box at the top of the Monkey Editor screen. There is a character counter located in the bottom right corner of the screen.( It counts from 120 backwards, allowing you to manage content of your Message)

TIP: Most SMS’s are standard with a limit of 120 Characters, contact your carrier and your phones manual to verify your limit.

Layout of Picture Messaging Editor Screen

At the top of the edit screen there is a box that says "no message yet" this is where you add the text of your Greeting (clicking here will open up a new screen where you can enter in your message). Located beneath the Message box there is a tool bar. Directly under that is the "drawing" box where you actually use the screen to do you editing/creating, and below that is another box which gives you overview of the Greeting Card you are editing. To the left of the overview box is a magnifying glass for zooming in on a specific area. To the right of the overview box are arrows for moving the Picture around in the drawing box. And at the very bottom are the 3 function boxes for Saving (Save), exiting the editor (Cancel), and Deleting (Delete).

When you open MonkeyCard from the main screen choose "new", to start building your personal Greeting. Once on the builder/editor screen you have some "functions" in the toolbar used to build your Card.

Creating a new Greeting Card

You will not use the graffiti pad to create your Greeting; you will draw directly in the box on the screen. First you can enter in the text message of your Greeting, the default will appear as "no message yet". Just tap on the message box, and you will be taken to a screen that allows you to enter in your text. Use the toolbar to draw, erase, block, or shift the position of the picture.

  • Drawing with the pen (1st box)- to make a dot, simply tap the screen, to erase the dot tap it again in the exact same place. To draw a line drag the stylus in a straight line and you will see it appear in the Picture Box.
  • The eraser (2nd box)- use the eraser to take away any marks, lines or shapes as you run the stylus over them. This is most effective to use when you are erasing a large area, for detailed areas, just tap the pixel you want to erase.
  • Shading (creating block) (3rd box) To use this begin in any area of the Picture Box using the stylus pen and while maintaining contact with the screen move vertical or horizontal until you have covered the desired area. Use this option if you would like to have a solid background. To complete the process simply put your stylus away from the surface and you will have a shaded area.
  • Shifting/Stretching/retracting (last 4 boxes) The best way to understand how the shift buttons work is try drawing a circle then choose any of the shift buttons and tap in the center of your circle. It basically will expand or contract the overall size and shape of your Picture. These buttons are handy if you are tying to create a symmetrical design.

Zooming in on Picture for detail

There is also a button to "zoom" in on the area you are working on. This will give you the ability to put greater detail into your design. To use this function, click on the magnifying glass icon and then you will see a box appear in the bottom overview of your Picture. You can then use the arrows to locate the specific area you choose to detail.

Editing a previously created Picture Message

From the main screen highlight the logo and then choose Edit. From there, simply follow the steps from "Creating a Greeting Card". Remember, if you don’t save an edit under a different name you will lose the original. In turn, if you forget to save your changes, the Card will automatically revert back to the original.

Sending the MonkeyCard

To send a Greeting you have created, make sure everything has been configured properly (from the set up section of this manual), then select the Card you wish to send. Once you have chosen the Card, hit the send button. You then enter the phone number you want to send it to, or you can send it to someone in your address book by clicking the "phone" icon. This is located to the right of where you enter the phone number.

Copying a Logo

If you have a Card that you would like to keep but make modifications to it, you cancopy it. Highlight the Greeting you wish to copy, then go to the drop down menu and choose "copy icon". This will take you to the MonkeyCard Editor screen where you can make your changes.

TIP: This is great for sending duplicate cards with different text. If you don’t make any changes, you will have two of the exact same Greetings. You can then return to the program later, modify it and save your changes under a different name. If you copy a Greeting Card on accident, just delete the extra one from the main screen.

Information and Help

If you see an icon that looks like a circle with an "I" in the middle that means you can get some information by tapping on the "I". This information is brief, but helpful in the event that you are unable to access the detailed MonkeyCard manual. The icon is usually located in the upper right hand corner of the screen or drop down box.

Beaming a Greeting

Select the Greeting you want to send from the List, Tap the "menu" silkscreen button (or tap once on the application name, if you are using PalmOS 3.5), then select "BEAM Card".

Line up the two Palm's infrared port (as for beaming), your Greeting will be transferred to your friend's Palm. Your friend will need to have MonkeyCard installed to view or edit it.
