Uncompressing/Unzipping
When you have finished downloading the file, if it has a ZIP extension, that means that it is a compressed archive in which several files have been compressed and combined into a single file. You will need to use an unzip utility that can handle V-2 zip files (all zip utilities released in the last few years support this format). These utilities are widely available throughout the internet in versions for DOS, Windows, Win95/NT, MAC, UNIX, etc.

Some of these versions are shareware and some are freeware. Any of the large software archives will have a copy of an unzip programs, so your first step will be to download one of these programs. Personally, I use WinZip which is shareware and which I find is extremely useful, but there are many other solutions that also work. You can download WinZip from www.winzip.com. It has nag screens, but is perfectly operational in its unregistered form, so you can use that to unzip the program. If you find yourself needing a zip utility, this one comes highly recommended and the shareware author will surely appreciate its registration (not to mention that you get free updates and removal of the nag screens!). Another good unzip utility is Aladdin's Expander which runs on Windows, MS/DOS AND the MAC OS, so MAC users can use this program to unzip files. You can download it from: http://www.aladdinsys.com/expander/index.html Use your unZip utility to display the contents of the archive. Usually, after you have downloaded and installed an UNZIP utility, it will have associated itself with the ZIP extension, so if you double-click on a file with a ZIP extension, it will automatically run the UnZip utility and display the contents of the ZIP archive.

Your newly downloaded files
You will now see two files: Transcript.prc, and this file, Transcript_Help.html. Transcript.prc is the actual application. It is this file that you will actually install onto your Palm PDA. If for any reason you need to re-install the app after you have entered your information (after registration for intance), only install Transcript.prc, because re-installing the databases (currDB.pdb, coursesDB.pdb, Transcript Data.pdb, etc.) will replace information with the default info that first came with the application. Run the Palm Install program. By default, this will be C:\PALM\INSTAP.EXE, and you should be able to find a pointer/shortcut to this item in the Palm program group. Click on the ADD button (or BROWSE if you are using the V-2 desktop software) and a standard directory dialog will open up. Navigate to the directory into which you extracted the PRC file, locate that file and double-click on it. Click on the INSTALL button to install the application.
Note that you can install another application at this point, or just exit. Put your Palm Organizer in the HotSync Cradle and press the HotSync Button. The new program file will be downloaded to your Palm Organizer, and its icon should now be displayed in the Palm's main applications screen, ready to run. READ THE DOCUMENTATION FIRST BEFORE TRYING TO RUN THE PROGRAM!!!

If hotsync does not copy your program down to your organizer, make SURE that your conduit is set so that INSTALL is enabled (Custom Menu in the Palm Desktop software).

Working with Transcript1.2
Using Transcript is extremely easy. I recommend that you begin by inputting your schools first, because you will have to choose a school to associate with a class, later on. There are a few icon buttons that are implemented in this application. There is a key to these icons below, although they are rather intuitive

To use the Address Lookup feature, you must first tap into the text field which you want to append the address information, then tap the phone icon to bring up the Address Lookup.

To save a record and exit to the main screen, tap the OK button found on the bottom left of the data entry screens. To save a current record and begin a new one, tap the disc button, which is found next to the OK button. If you tap the disc or "save" without having entered anything on the screen, a blank entry may be added to your database. To get rid of blank database entries, simply tap on the blank line while viewing your lists (be it by grade, year, etc.) and then delete it by tapping on the trash can button ("delete").

To view your transcript in different ways ie: by letter grade, by year, by current school, use the top menu and tap on View. This will dropdown three viewing choices. As always, tap the "home" button to get back to the main screen.

The main screen is sorted by alphabetical order, and also contains your Cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average). Your Cumulative GPA (CGPA) is calculated from all entries you will make, giving you your GPA from all work done at all schools. To calculate your GPA at your current school only, be sure to check the "Currently Attending" checkbox when entering your class information, then View by Current, tap "Yes", then OK to view.

GPA is calculated by multiplying credit hours by grade points, then dividing that value by total credit hours. On a 4.0 scale, an A is worth 4.0 grade points, a B is worth 3.0, a C is worth 2.0, a D is worth 1.0, and Failure is worth 0.0. Keep this in mind as you enter your course information. You will need to enter the credit hours a class is worth, the letter grade (A, B, C, D, F), and the grade points applicable for the letter grade. This is then calculated on various screens.

Some schools operate on different scales and have different grades and grade values. Check with your records office for the correct value of your letter grades, then enter them as usual.
