Vivid Clip Converter

v1.0

Vivid Clip Converter is used to playback and export .vvd video clips captured with a Sony CLIE NR70V using Vivid.

Requirements

VCC requires a PC running Windows with QuickTime Player installed.

QuickTime Player is free software. It is recommended that the latest version, Quicktime 6, is installed on your PC. It is available for download from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

Installation

Install the “Vivid Clip Converter.exe” file somewhere on your hard drive and you are good to go.

Import

From the file menu choose “Import”.

Either copy the .vvd video clips from Memory Stick on to your hard drive or select a video clip directly from the /VIVID folder on Memory Stick.

When a .vvd video clip is selected click on the “Open” button to start import and loading of the video clip for playback and export.

Play

When a video clip has been imported a new window will be opened in which the video clip will be played in.

There are buttons at the bottom of the window which are used to control the playback.

A Play / Pause button, Forward and Backward buttons and a progress bar which all works in a similar way as the ones in Vivid.

The movie window can be resized by dragging the bottom right corner of the window, allowing for the movie to be played back in larger or smaller sizes.

Export

Video clips can be exported to many different standard video formats such as AVI, MPEG4, QuickTime movie etcetera.

Choose “Export” from the file menu to export a video clip.

Choose the export settings and then hit the “Save” button to start the export.

Export settings

- FPS

This setting changes the number of frames per second the exported movie will have.

Make sure that this value is the same as for the video clip that you are exporting.

The FPS of a video clip that has been imported to VCC is shown in the title of the movie window.

- Key frame rate

This setting lets you change how often a “key frame” should be inserted in the compression of the exported movie.

E.g. a key frame every 10 frames results in higher quality but larger file size than a key frame every 30 frames.

- Quality

This lets you change the overall quality of the compression of the exported movie.

Higher quality means larger file size and lower quality means lower file size.

- Limit data rate

This setting is yet another way to change the file size and the quality of the compression.

This is useful if the video clip is intended to be downloaded and played back in real time from a network/connection with a certain bandwidth constraint. Choose the data rate to a value lower than the bandwidth constraint of that particular network/connection.

- Internet streaming

Check the box labelled “Prepare for Internet Streaming” to allow starting playback of the exported video clip before the entire clip has been downloaded from e.g. a website.

There are a number of possible export formats and compression codecs available to choose from.

If you are not sure which to choose, choose “Default settings” or try “Movie to QuickTime movie” with “Sorenson Video 3” as compression method. This setting has a compression method which gives high quality video and small file sizes.
