Use an extractor program such as WinZip on the PC or Stuffit Expander (on the Mac) to get at
the Elixir files. Install the game by double-clicking the .prc file,
which opens the Palm Install Tool program
Use the HotSync button as usual to install the game onto your
handheld. If you have a handheld with an expansion card, you can then move the
game over to it. Do this before you register the game!
Now run Elixir and tap the screen to play the game!
If you've got any queries about Elixir or the registration process, first
check out our knowledge base
on our website (you must be connected to the internet to access this). If this
doesn't help, get in touch with us at support@astraware.com. If you've got
any questions (or suggestions, we love those) about the game itself, please get
in touch with us at the email address at the top of this page.
Break the neatly stacked capsules to collect the elixir before your time runs
out.
Easy and Hard Modes
You have a diminishing stock of elixir and it
is up to you to replenish it before it all dries up. You collect it by breaking
open capsules containing the liquid. You can break any capsule so long as it is
not the only capsule supporting another. Each time you break a capsule the
elixir it contained will be added to your stock. If your stock of elixir reaches
the top then you advance to the next level and the speed increases. If it
reaches the bottom then you are out of the game. Hard mode has the speed set to
that of level 30 in Easy mode.
Timed Mode
Each level presents
you with a certain number of capsules to collect. Your stock of elixir decreases
over time and you have until it reaches the bottom to collect the required
number of capsules. If you succeed then you will advance to the next level where
your elixir stock will diminish faster. If you fail then its game over and
you’ll have to try again.
Bonus Capsules
If you smash the bonus
capsules they explode, taking out capsules that are close by. All capsules that
no longer have any support will descend until they come to rest. If you are
playing in Timed mode then the required number of capsules will decrease by the
amount of capsules that have exploded. If in Easy or Hard mode your elixir will
be stocked with the amount of liquid contained in all the exploded capsules.
Settings
The options menu gives you various
options
Effects:
All or Minimal, Set to ‘All’ if you wish to
see the fragments fly after you smash each
capsule.
Scoring:
Normal or Negative, Set to Negative if you
want to be penalized for trying to remove a capsule that is supporting another.
If you are playing in ‘Easy’ or ‘Hard’ mode then your stock of elixir will be
reduced by a small amount each time you try to make an illegal move. If you are
in ‘Timed’ mode then the number of capsules required is slightly increased
instead.
Capsules:
Here you can choose the style of capsules.
‘Round’ for the default tubular capsules, ‘Flat’ for a more simplified brighter
set of capsules. Lastly ‘Square’ for a more translucent squarer set.
Here are a few hints that should increase your score
Easy or
Hard mode
Look for long vertical columns that can be all collected starting from the
top and working down. The amount of elixir that is collected depends on the size
of capsule. Try to go for larger capsules rather than the single round ones in
this mode. Timed mode
Size of capsules doesn’t matter here, so choose the largest amount of
capsules rather than the largest size of capsule. Again long vertical runs are a
good way to proceed.
There's just one hidden feature built in! If you write a grafitti ‘G’ during
the game then the gravity is reversed, exploded fragments of glass will fall
upwards. This hidden feature allows you to turn your handheld upside down and
play the game upside down.
In Demo form, you can play 10 games of Elixir for free, as you decide whether
you like it or not. After these games are up, the program will display a short
message reminding you to register each time you play!
If you beam a demo to someone else, and they also like the game, then
they can register it either by purchasing a copy from a local store, or by
purchasing online.
Registering Online:
For those that like the speed and convenience of buying of the internet, when
you register for the game, you'll get a key which will unlock the game and
remain valid for future 1.x upgrades. Go to the web page at http://www.astraware.com/games/gameplate/elixir
for more details.
You'll need to know your HotSync
ID which you can find by running Elixir, and going into the menu, and
selecting the 'Register...' option. Your HotSync ID will be filled in for you
below.
When you register, Astraware will generate a key based on your ID,
which will normally be sent out by email within 48 hours of you registering.
When you receive your key, go to the same register option, and enter the key
into the space provided.
Registered users of the game are entitled to submit their high scores to our
Internet High Score table.
Just visit the Elixir web pages at http://www.astraware.com/games/gameplate/elixir
and select the link to view high scores.
To submit your own score, you need to go to the menu in the game, and select
'export high score'. This will provide you with a code which you can then type
into our site:
http://www.astraware.com/palm/elixir/high
You can only submit high scores once you've beaten the scores built into the
game!
